Step 12 of Overeaters Anonymous – Spread Your Light and Love
As part of my continued Ode to the 12 Days of Christmas for Bulimics and Anorexics this post is about Step 12 of Overeaters Anonymous, which reads:
Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these Steps, we tried to carry this message to compulsive overeaters and to practice these principles in all our affairs.
If you’ve made it to step 12 then you’re probably ready for a Halleluiah! You’re also excited to spread the message of recovery and your journey along the way. Sharing your bulimia recovery story could mean a lot to someone still finding their way out of the depths of the disorder. Please use the comment form below to share your story. We’d love to hear about your journey!
If you’re still working your way up to step 12 of OA then stay the course. Recovery is a different road for each of us and take comfort in knowing you’re never going to get it done. Don’t look at recovery as a destination; it’s just a different part of your journey. Your never ending expansion as a being.
I can appreciate now as I look back on my recovery journey over the past 6 ½ years how far I’ve come. I can tell you that only in the past 3-4 months do I finally feel like I’m living step 12. There have been many twists and turns along my road and plenty of ups and downs – amen! And here I sit on the verge of a new year and I can’t think of anything I’d rather be doing that enjoying writing about recovery and reflecting upon the road I’ve traveled thus far.
I go to sleep at night in peace and wake up with excitement to live my life fully. I am excited to be sharing with you how you can overcome bulimia, too. There is no feeling like the relief that comes from getting the ED monster off your back and having a heart filled with love and a mind at ease.
For now, I wish you the best wherever you are on your journey and hope we’ll connect again in the new year.
If you’d like to share your comments or feedback on my interpretation of this (step 12 of overeaters anonymous), please feel free to leave a message below.
I hope you’ve enjoyed this series on the 12 Steps of Overeaters Anonymous (OA) and please come back in the new year to see what we’re up to. Remember to THRIVE!
